This community service program was conducted to enhance the knowledge and awareness of
fishermen in the Air Manis coastal area, Padang City, regarding occupational safety and the proper use of
standardized radio frequency spectrum. This topic was chosen due to the low understanding among traditional
fishermen about maritime safety procedures and the correct use of communication devices, which often cause
interference with aviation frequencies. The method applied was a participatory approach through
socialization, technical training, and mentoring activities involving the use of safety equipment and Short
Range Certificate (SRC) technical guidance. The program involved a total of 45 fishermen as participants. The
results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of safety practices and the correct
use of radio communication devices. Moreover, fishermen began to demonstrate behavioral changes by
preparing appropriate safety equipment before going to sea. This community service contributes to
strengthening a culture of safety in the traditional fisheries sector while supporting government efforts to
regulate the legal and efficient use of maritime radio frequencies
