Strategi Mitigasi Risiko pada UMKM: Analisis Komparatif antara Pempek Bege dan Cuanki Spicy di Kota Medan

This study aims to identify business risks and analyze risk management practices in two micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Medan City, namely Pempek Bege and Cuanki Spicy. The background of this research lies in the significant role of MSMEs in the national economy, particularly in employment absorption and contribution to the gross domestic product. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The results indicate that Pempek Bege faces several business risks, including financial, product, and market risks, with main weaknesses such as limited capital and lack of innovation. Meanwhile, Cuanki Spicy’s major risks lie in product-related issues, followed by financial and marketing risks, such as limited funding, perishable products, and insufficient promotion. The risk management strategies applied by both MSMEs include avoidance, retention, and diversification, such as developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and enhancing online marketing. Overall, this research concludes that proper risk management implementation helps MSMEs minimize potential losses and maintain business sustainability amid dynamic economic challenges.
