Abstract

Geographically and with extensive fishery resources, Indonesia is an archipelagic country with vast territorial waters. This indicates the potential for exploiting fishery resources and attracting the attention of other countries to infiltrate and steal Indonesian resources, commonly known as illegal fishing. Illegal practices harm Indonesia not only economically, socially, and environmentally, but also impact Indonesia's reputation as a maritime nation. This study employed a qualitative research approach with a case study methodology. The results indicate that the Run Zeng 03 vessel violated Indonesian fisheries regulations by conducting illegal fishing and transshipment. Furthermore, there were indications of crew exploitation, which could be the culmination of the violations in the Run Zeng 03 case. Therefore, the handling of the Run Zeng 03 case demonstrates the need for strengthened maritime surveillance, consistent law enforcement, and international cooperation in efforts to eradicate illegal fishing in Indonesia.
